“The Ignorant Wish” – Tyler Sorrell

Ignorance is bliss.
But what happens when ignorance no longer exists?
Is it the same as blowing out our brains or slitting a wrist?
Positivity is what we seek, but negativity we just can resist.
We’re human, so we make mistakes.
We’re not perfect, so it’s expected.
Expectations can cause aches.
Whether or not they’re met can change how you feel about those respected.
Some of us feel neglected.
Some hurt.
Some alive.
We may all have people we despise.
None will understand unless seen through another’s eyes.
We misunderstand what’s understood.
Like when we lie as we say everything’s good.
The mind can play many tricks.
The heart can mislead your eyes, and vise versa.
Knowing can cause damage.
Not knowing can make thing worse.
Is it safe to know the truth?
Is the truth really a lie?
Are these lies what make us human?

… If so, I wish to die

“You’ve Been Blessed” – Tyler Sorrell

Preface: “You’re beautiful.” Those feeling down on their luck, those who can look in the mirror and wish they didn’t see what they saw, those who have once felt worthless in life… Know that…

You’re beautiful.
The minutes spent making you were miracals.
Worth is something earned.
Life is something learned.
You’ve been blessed, simply blessed…; the truth has been burned.
Incinerated feeling of spiritual worth being lost.
No longer feeling like ones love is being dealt away without a cost.
You’ve been blessed, simply blessed…
Let your tears run a mile.
At the end of every lesson, there’s an opportunity to smile.
Open your eyes to it all.
Never stop from being heard.
Listen to the wisdom; life’s unspoken word.
You’ve been blessed, you’ve been blessed…
This isn’t only mine, but your World.

“Lost Love Found Success” By Tyler Sorrell

Briefing: This poem is a tribute to the love of my life, Arielle Shepherd, who passed away in a party in Cypress (Houston, Tx). The party became a shoot-out, 22-people injured, 2 dead… One, being my beloved best-friend & future wife. I promised to take her everywhere that my success drove me. Promised to always be there and never leave her behind. As much as the thought of losing her kills me inside, on the out, my strength and confidence, my motivation and arrogance, helps me proceed with our plans. Within the life I live, and the lifestyle I’ve chosen for myself, through these words of Soul… I’ll continue to keep my promise and bring her along. Love

My wife passed away when we were seventeen.
Didn’t get to graduate and hit the major scenes.
Laid back and educated, we could run the world.
November 9th I lost my favorite girl.

My life hasn’t been the same since I was seventeen.
Last years of my childhood and I’m doing major things.
Shoving bragging rights in your face, it’s me against the world.
Surrounded by my team, but left without my favorite girl.

My master plans were simple, yet complicated.
All simplicity around became complications.
Tortured by obstacles and distant barriers…
Many detours and lots of twists and turns.
A mental wound that burns.

Guided by the truth.
Headed toward the facts.
Opinions never add up, from my life, those subtract.
The day that I lost you I didn’t know how to react.
Now success is on it’s way and it’s our name it’s plaque.

Rest in Peace, Arielle Olivia Shepherd. Forever Loved, Never Forgotten.

“The Farewell” by Tyler Sorrell

Briefing: This poem is dedicated to those who never got the chance to speak their last words. Those who believe the goodbyes are dead ends instead of entrances into a greater path. Whether it’s the lost of a close friend or just another person you’re no longer dealing with, your last words mean a lot to both you and that person. After the lost of the girl I loved the most, after I realized that there was no reply to when I asked, “Are you okay?”, I became aware that our last conversation wasn’t one of the best… Of course she knew who she was to me, but that last goodbye, that last hello, would’ve done justice. This is “The Farewell.”

Vibe and Enjoy™

Hands twist and turn.
Lips speak future distances.
Bodies separate, some crash and burn.
Minds no longer learn.
Eyes seek closer distances.
Feet are motionless.
Reaching for the days, to greet again.
Talking about the days when I said, “I wish that we’d meet,” again.
Feeling like we should speak again.
Remembering that dismissal never really comes again.
Seeing this now, it’s time to breathe again.
Stepping annually, each step closer to death again.
Touch down to common grounds and let’s speak our final words.
Say what’s needed, tweet away gossip birds.
Intake acceptance, let go worrisome exhaust.
Think less of the would’s and could’s, bring up did’s and done’s.
Envision accomplishments, none shall be lost.
Move into enlightenment, this farewell is included
.
Concluded.

Get to know The Soul

Once again, thank you all for viewing & reading my blog. As a young writer, it means a lot to know that there are people out in the world actually listening. I’ve been writing for about 5 years, and can personally say as I’ve grown up from middle school to welcoming myself into Texas Southern. My work is primarily based off the depth of my mind and how far these thoughts of mine really venture… That’s until they land on paper, between the common punctuation, people get to see. I chose The Soul of Hou as my identity to embrace that. From here on, you, along with my other followers, will become apart of what’s to come.

“The Irony” by Tyler Sorrell

Stuck in the moment when I began to realize I may never make it like I plan.
When dreams turn suicidal nightmares, doubts hit the fan.
Starting to realize I’m just an ordinary man.
Surrounded by extravagant ignorance.
Absorbed by personal mental incompetence.
Irony is the main character of my story.
Ironically the beginning is where I found glory.
Ironically the end was seen from the beginning.
Somehow this prime time loser can’t stop winning at losing.
If my blood within represents life, it’s flowing down the drain.
Somehow this lively kid loves the thought of what he hates the most; suicidal pain.
Self inflicted consequences, all could’ve been avoided.
Somehow during the trouble of it all, I simply enjoyed it.
Ironically this enjoyment was a nightmare all along.
Now I’m all alone, stuck singing this lively joyless song.

“Mind Vs. Heart” by Tyler Sorrell

Vibe & Enjoy

We’re strong, yet so weak.
What is it that we seek?
Together we’re made for each other, but when separated, we can’t be.
Decisions become our pain.
The flow of it all rests in our soul. Whether or not we stop them both, the consequences have already been made known.

Cliche it may be, everything happens for reasons unknown, although every reason is shown.
We’re blinded by our heart, for the light it brings is full grown.
Our minds simply complicate the barriers in which we unwillingly seek.
Once we’re confused about our next motion, that’s when we’ve hit our peak.

Should we fall back and let the energy that’s brought us here attempt to bring us back…
Should we move ahead and not look back upon what we’re leaving behind instead.
Confusing it may be, the decision between mind and heart, yet it’s a status in which we live for, for it’ll never be apart.

Time goes by at the same rate, so why does it seem like things go faster than before.
Are we just caught up in the moments we still think about or is this a mind game of tug of war.
Whether you’re thinking for yourself or another, the choice is made for you.
If you’re the type that’s full of regrets, this mind game isn’t for you.
We stick ourselves in these situations, since most of us fight to hold on instead of letting go.

Holding on is a mind trick the heart just can’t take.
Ironically, letting your heart take control may just be the worst mistake.
How to chose between the two, is just as hard as letting go…
Why is it that this happens, one may never know…
That’s until you question why things are questioned, such as the things that weren’t questioned before.
Like do you love me anymore, or wondering if you’re a pimp or whore.
We waste time keeping track of the moments when both our mind and hearts became sore.

The race to find out which is right will probably result in gore.
The finish line position is up to you, whether it ends or begins more.
